Today, I installed a plugin from the Google Chrome Store and noticed that I had a new shiny icon in my Menu Bar (OSX, for those Windows users reading this). It was a little “bell” that was very unfamiliar – so I checked it out, and I realized that apparently Google Chrome enabled something that is called Sync Notifications. Follow along to disable this feature.
I’m not a big fan of clutter, and the Sync Notifications are just something that I do not need; your mileage may vary. Either way, let’s follow along to see what these notification look like and how to disable them.
Here’s what it looks like with the Sync Notifications enabled – with the icon and all its glory:
In order to disable it, go into your Google Chrome address bar and type chrome://flags
and then press return
; a page should load with experimental options that you can enable/disable at your leisure:
Scroll on down the page (quite a ways, at the time of writing this post) and you should find something titled Enable Synced Notifications; you want to select from the dropdown Disabled:
When you do this, this will trigger a Relaunch Now button at the bottom of the Google Chrome web browser, and you will need to click it (which will in turn, re-launch Google Chrome):
Once Google Chrome re-launches, you will notice that the Menu Bar icon is now gone:
